Offering the power you want and the fuel economy you need, Audi supplies the A3 with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Top fuel economy is 35 mpg highway. This two-liter unit generates 186 horsepower and controls it with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic. Stepping over, the A3 Sportback e-Tron driver commands 204 horsepower and has the benefit of hybrid technology. If you want to stick with traditional power, you can have the turbo retuned to generate 220 horsepower. This unit is controlled by a six-speed dual-clutch automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. You can bet that it gives a V6 a run for the money with its 258 lb-ft of torque. Even faster, tuning for the S3 lets the same engine generate 292 horsepower. If you love driving a sports car, Audi has introduces its RS 3 performance model. Its unique five-cylinder engine generates 400 horsepower.

Interior and Technology

When you consider the A3 basic package, it’s no wonder that Edmunds writes that it continues to be one of the most desirable entry-level compact sedans. This is the first year that Audi has included heated seats as a standard feature. Shoppers will like that the low price includes leather seats and real aluminum inlays. Higher editions add designer touches such as Nappa leather. 12-way power chairs are also standard, making the driver and front seat passenger much more comfortable. If you pick a racy edition, you may want to upgrade to the bolstered sport seats. In the backseat, headroom and legroom is more generous than passengers will find in rivals Acura ILX or Mercedes-Benz CLA. If you don’t want a traditional sedan, you can enjoy the open air fun of the A3 Cabriolet or the extra utility of the A3 Sportback e-Tron.

Audi’s MMI infotainment system has a seven-inch retractable screen and a control knob. Users can more from the system thanks to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Drivers will appreciate the optional Audi Virtual Cockpit. The large screen stretches behind the steering wheel and offers navigation as well as instrumentation. Equipped for modern life, the cabin now has two USB ports and a rearview camera. The ten-speaker audio system delivers impressive sound. Shoppers can step up to the enhanced infotainment system with its handwriting recognition pad.

To protect passengers in the event of an accident, Audi has Pre Sense Basic. This system rolls up windows, tightens seat belts and turns on the hazard lights. Even better, Pre Sense Front tries to keep the car from an accident by warning the driver about forward collision dangers. It has an autobrake to reduce the chances of hitting the car ahead. Other standards include rain-sense wipers and automatic headlights. More safety technology is standard on the Premium Plus edition. This includes a blind spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic alert.
