2019 VW Jetta

Serving Merrillville, IN, Crown Point, and Hobart

The sixth-generation Volkswagen Jetta has been one of the most popular passenger cars from the German automaker but has started showing its age after a nine-year production run. It is then no surprise that the announcement of the all-new seventh-generation 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was an exciting moment for Volkswagen enthusiasts. Rebuilt practically from the ground up, the new Jetta has a new platform, a bold new design and a full range of exciting new features. While few details are available, the new compact sedan is rapidly shaping up to be just as versatile, efficient and innovative as the sixth-generation Jetta was when it was first released.

Exterior and Performance

The engine is probably the only thing that Volkswagen has not completely changed for the next-generation Jetta. It is still the same 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged block, producing 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It is mediated by a new eight-speed automatic transmission, though a six-speed manual is also available. The suspension was also redesigned, and is now slightly softer and more balanced for comfort, thanks in part to the car’s longer wheelbase. For drivers looking for something sportier, the new Jetta will also include a performance R-line trim that also sports some new technology, such as the Cross Differential System for vectoring torque during tight turns.

Interior and Technology

The Jetta has traditionally been one of the more spacious entries in the compact car class, and the new model takes several more steps forward in comfort and luxury. It is slightly longer, taller and wider than its predecessor, which makes for a huge difference in passenger room. The back seat in particular has expanded to easily fit tall adults. The seats themselves are well-shaped and supportive, with available leather and leatherette interiors featuring both ventilation and heating. Unique accents, such as programmable interior mood lighting, only add to the feeling of comfort that the interior of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta gives off.

The new Jetta has taken some lessons from Volkswagen’s upscale Audi brand when it comes to infotainment. A particularly appreciated feature borrowed is the Digital Cockpit technology. Instead of projecting all infotainment onto a central touchscreen, it instead uses a TFT display in place of the instrument cluster. That not only shows data like speed and fuel level, but can also display data from apps, navigation or the infotainment system, letting you control them from the steering wheel while keeping your eyes on the road ahead. Among other exciting features available in the new Jetta are a custom-designed Beats sound system, full smartphone integration, and an impressive list of safety technologies.

2019 VW Jetta Interior

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is not yet available for sale, so it has not been properly crash tested by third-parties, but if its list of safety technologies is anything to go by, it is going to be Volkswagen’s safest car yet. The car can be equipped with a full modern suite of sensors, doing everything from detecting a car moving in your blind spot or behind a parked vehicle, to correcting your course when you drift out of your lane or matching the speed of the car in front of you. The MQB platform of the new Jetta has also performed very well in crash testing on other cars, such as the Volkswagen Atlas and Golf models, making the new Jetta a shoe-in for top safety honors.
